Woods and Finishes:

"While I will use whatever wood you choose I personally prefer to use domestic hard woods and save the exotic species for future generations. My personal favorites are eastern black walnut and claro walnut. Other favorites are cherry and figured maple. I am currently exploring sources for sustainable wood products and recycled wood. I would be happy to discuss various wood species with you by considering your decor, type of use, mixing of species and type of finish.

One of the first things I did was to study wood finishing with one of the best in the business. As a result, I consider myself an expert in applying a variety of finishes to match the specific needs. Usually I will spray on a variety of custom mixed shellacs or lacquers or hand rub the piece with Danish Oil or wiping varnish. In all cases I ensure that the natural beauty of the wood is preserved and enhanced and that each piece is protected against water, water vapor and wear. The final step always includes hand rubbing for a soft, smooth look that makes touching the wood an irresistible and sensuous experience.
